MILTON - A Milton Fire Commissioner was arrested in Westchester Wednesday for allegedly sending indecent materials to a 14-year-old, the Westchester County District Attorney's office said.

Charles Diorio, 57, was accused of having sexually explicit Internet conversations with someone he thought was 14, officials said.

Diorio was arrested in White Planes when he allegedly attempted to meet the teen, who was actually an undercover investigator, authorities said.

A woman who answered the phone at Diorio's home declined to comment.

Diorio was a life member of the Milton Fire Department and served as Fire Chief about 14 years ago. He was elected as Fire Commissioner in March.

Diorio lost a bid for the Marlborough town board in 1995. He is the former Ulster County Democratic Chairman for Marlborough, said John Parete, chairman of the County Democratic Party.

"This is the kind of thing that disappoints everybody, if it's true," he said.

Between May 7 and Tuesday, Diorio allegedly had Internet chats in which he described sexual activity he wanted to have with the youth, the DA's office said.

Diorio was charged with felony first-degree attempted dissemination of indecent materials to minors. It was unclear Wednesday evening if Diorio was being held in Westchester County Jail.
