MAN FACES SEVERAL CHARGES AFTER CHASE
BEACON — A 44-year-old Beacon man was arrested Saturday after a car chase through the City of Beacon, authorities said.
Samuel B. Nelson was charged with second-degree assault on a police officer, first-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree criminal mischief, all felonies.
While Beacon police officers were interviewing the victim of an alleged sexual assault, Nelson was seen entering a car down the street, police said.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but Nelson allegedly refused to stop and three officers pursued him. In the pursuit, the vehicle hit a stone wall on Route 9D and continued onto Fulton Street. The vehicle hit a fence on Fowler Street and then struck a police car. The chase continued on foot, until Nelson was arrested.
Nelson was also charged with resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, driving while impaired by drugs and several other misdemeanors and traffic violations.
Nelson is being held in the city jail pending arraignment in City of Beacon Court. Additional charges are pending, police said.
