GLENHAM MAN JAILED AFTER POLICE CHASE
BEACON -- A Glenham man was held Monday in the Dutchess County Jail after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase with his girlfriend and their six-month-old infant in the van, police said.
Christopher Richards, 23, was stopped on DePuyster Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Sunday for having no front license plate and a broken windshield, city police said. He took off at a high rate of speed, hitting 73 mph and nearly colliding with other vehicles in a 30 mph zone.
He stopped along Howland Avenue, where he ran into the woods and was caught, police said. No one was injured.
Richards was charged with two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful imprisonment, all felonies. He also was charged with resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child and other misdemeanors, along with numerous traffic violations.
He was held Monday on $5,000 cash bail and is due back in city court Wednesday.
