CARLOS COLMANERO - Beacon Police Officer, ARRESTED and Criminally Charged with DWI

Tuesday, December 30, 2003

HYDE PARK -- A Beacon police officer was charged with driving while intoxicated after being involved in a car accident last week, Hyde Park police said.

Robert Sellick, 28, of Hopewell Junction, was driving about 3 a.m. Dec. 20 when his vehicle was struck by a car driven by Carlos Colmanero, of Fishkill, police said. Police would not specify where the accident took place.

Sellick, the police officer, and Colmanero claimed they had a green light. Both were charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

A passenger in Sellick's car and both drivers were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie and treated for minor injuries.

Beacon Police Chief Richard Sassi said he was aware of the accident and was waiting for the investigation by Hyde Park police before deciding if disciplinary action will be taken against Sellick.

Power loss blamed on cable problem

Power was briefly interrupted in Poughkeepsie Monday afternoon because of a problem with a main cable that supplies electricity to the city, officials said.

The resulting voltage dip affected customers in the downtown Poughkeepsie and North Road areas, said John Maserjian, a spokesman for Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. He said most customers experienced briefly dimmed lights or a short interruption in power.

An alternate power feed already was in place, he said, and the voltage dip lasted no more than a few seconds.

Because not all customers share power from the problem cable, the utility did not have an estimate of how many people were affected.
