Chase Through City Leads to Drug Arrest

A Wappinger man was arrested early Tuesday after leading police on a short chase through the City of Poughkeepsie, the Dutchess County Drug Task Force.

Tyrone K. Haskins, 42, allegedly had 20 bags of heroin in his possession when he was arrested about 12:40 a.m. on Smith Street, police said.

Haskins led police on a short, low-speed chase through several city streets before his arrest. He was arrested after a ongoing investigation into heroin sales in the Poughkeepsie area.

He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and first-degree reckless endangerment, both felonies. He also faces misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.

Haskins, who complained of chest pain, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where he was treated and released.

He was being held at the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

LET US ENLIGHTEN THESE OFFICERS ON THE MEANING OF THE WORD CHASE: (1) TO FOLLOW RAPIDLY IN ORDER TO CATCH: PURSUE: (2) TO PUT TO FLIGHT: (3) THE ACT OF CHASING.

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING TO HAVE SEEN A "SHORT, LOW SPEED CHASE", THROUGHOUT SEVERAL (MANY) CITY STREETS, RELATED TO THE DEFINITION OF THE WORD "CHASE", AS YOU CONVENIENTLY DESCRIBED IT TO BE.
