Ex-local police officer held on FELONY drug charges

BAY SHORE, Suffolk County -- A former Lloyd police official is due in Central Islip court today after he was arrested in a Suffolk County diner for allegedly selling marijuana, police said.

Francis Piscopo, of Highland, was arrested Jan. 30 by Suffolk police at a diner in Bay Shore, Detective Nicholas Nigro said. Nigro did not say whether marijuana was found on Piscopo, citing an ongoing investigation. He was charged with first-degree criminal sale of marijuana, a felony, for allegedly selling 16 ounces of the drug. He is being held on $125,000 bail or $250,000 bond.

Piscopo is a former sergeant with the Lloyd Police Department and was in charge of the department until August 1989, when he was accused of stealing baseball gloves and chain saws worth $1,800 from a department evidence locker.

BAYSHORE, Suffolk County -- A Highland man will appear in court Thursday after he was arrested for allegedly selling marijuana in a Suffolk County hotel, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office said.

Francis Piscopo, of Hudson Lane in Highland, was arrested by the Suffolk County Police Department about 5 p.m. Jan. 27, in a room at the Econo Lodge on Main Street in Bayshore, Chief Alan Otto of the sheriff's office said.

Otto said Piscopo allegedly sold more than 16 ounces of marijuana and was under audio surveillance by the Suffolk County Police Department at the time.

The Suffolk County Police Department and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office are two different agencies; while the police department made the arrest, detectives declined to release information Monday.

Piscopo was charged with criminal sale of marijuana in the first degree, a felony.

He's being held in the Riverhead Correctional Facility on $125,000 or $250,000 bond bail. He is scheduled to return to Central Islip court Thursday.
